How far in advance should I book?
For Komodo peak season (July–September) and Raja Ampat (October–April), we recommend booking at least 2–3 months ahead. Prime boats with premium cabin configurations fill up fast. For shoulder season, 4–6 weeks is usually sufficient — but the best boats are always booked first
Can I make a custom itinerary, or are routes fixed?
All itineraries are fully customisable. Standard routes exist because they work well — Komodo’s Pink Beach, Manta Point, and Padar Island are non-negotiable highlights for most guests — but dive priorities, snorkel-only stops, remote beach landings, or overnight anchorages at specific bays can all be arranged. Is there a minimum group size to charter a boat?
No. You can book individual cabins on shared charters (joining other travellers) or take a full private charter for groups of 6–14 depending on the vessel. Private charters give you complete flexibility over departure date and route customisation.
What is a phinisi boat?
A phinisi (or pinisi) is a traditional two-masted wooden sailing vessel originating from the Bugis and Makassar people of South Sulawesi. They have been built in the same coastal villages for centuries. Modern liveaboard phinisi are purpose-built for tourism — fitted with en-suite cabins, sun decks, air conditioning, and safety equipment — while retaining the iconic handcrafted teak hull and rigging that makes them unmistakable on the water.

What is the best time of year to visit Komodo?
The dry season from April to November is generally ideal. July and August are peak months — calm seas, excellent underwater visibility, and reliable Manta Ray sightings at Manta Point. December to February brings westerly swells that can make crossings to the southern islands rougher, though experienced skippers know calmer anchorage spots year-round.
What is the best time of year to visit Raja Ampat?
October through April is the primary season, coinciding with calmer seas around Misool and the northern island groups. This is also peak season for Wobbegong sharks, Manta Rays at Arborek, and whale shark encounters in the Cenderawasih Bay area. May to September can bring stronger southerly swells but remains fully operable and is often quieter in terms of tourist traffic.
